Dr. Carrilho got his bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, 1987, and M.Sc. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of São Paulo (USP) in São Carlos, Brazil, in 1990.

Obtained his Ph.D. in Northeastern University, in 1997, under the guidance of Professor Barry L. Karger, of the Barnett Institute, in Boston, MA.

Joined the University of São Paulo in the analytical chemistry program of the Institute of Chemistry of São Carlos, USP in 1998, becoming associate professor in 2004 and full professor in 2013.

During 2007-2009, was visiting professor in Harvard University, being part of the Whitesides group with professor George M.
