Research activity

The BioMicS group aims to develop new bioanalytical technologies (methods and instrumentation) that could replace the official methodologies with lower costs, better performance and greater reliability.
Having analytical separations as central science and oriented towards biological problems, the Group seeks to develop solutions for genomics, proteomics and metabolomics studies. Through this interface with the life sciences, tries to contribute to the improvement of the quality of life. To enable these studies, develops new bioanalytical methods.

The laboratory focus its attention in the development of miniaturized systems of total analysis. The fabrication and development of analysis integrated systems that furnishes accurate and sensitive answers with minimal laboratory preparation or manipulation is practically an unanimity in the scientific field. That is, it seeks to develop a miniaturized system in which is possible to directly insert a sample and obtain a reliable response in very little time and with minimum reagent consumption.

Thus, to be able to develop miniaturized bioanalytical systems that can be taken directly to the point of use (clinics, hospitals, screening, customhouse, etc.) to detect pathogens, toxins, pollutants, transgenic, drugs of abuse, etc., is what we believe to have the greatest repercussion in the BioMicS’ philosophy of atuation.
